Day 10: Pakse - Pakse "Pakse - 4,000 Islands"

Today’s program begins with a drive south to Wat Pho, the ruins of a Khmer temple complex rich with history. This UNESCO World Heritage Site was a part of the Khmer empire before being converted to a center for Theravada Buddhism. The complex stretches 1400 meters up the lower slopes of the Phu Pasak mountain range, and its impressive and slightly mysterious ruins make this an almost otherworldly experience. After a tour, it’s time to climb onto one of Laos’ million elephants and ride to Phou Asa, a set of ancient stone towers whose origins, like the Plain of Jars, remain unknown. From here, you’ll have a spectacular view of the surrounding rice fields. In the afternoon, proceed by car/van and boat to the legendary 4,000 Islands. Overnight at hotel in the 4,000 Islands.
